Welcome to the Combustion Department!
Willkommen bei der Arbeitsgruppe Verbrennung!
Bienvenue à l'Unité Combustion!
Our mission
The Combustion department (AV - for Arbeitsgruppe Verbrennung) belongs to the Institute for thermal turbomachinery and machine dynamics (TTM) at the Graz university of technology (TUG). It was opened October 2004.
The department covers the following areas:
Education:
Teach the TUG-students the principles of gas turbine combustion, based on both theory and experience. Give to these future engineers and researchers an up-to-date overview on energy and propulsive systems, focusing on current and future technologies regarding efficiency and sustainability. Prepare and motivate them for future energy and mobility challenges. Provide the turbomachinery community with top-ranked engineers and researchers.
Ground research:
Analysis of turbulent combustion. Interaction between the flame dynamics and its direct environment. Physics of combustion instability. Low pollutant emission strategies.
Applied research:
Instrumentation development regarding sensing and actuating on turbulent combustion, regarding combustion stability. Research on future combustion technologies, such as pulse detonation engines or constant volume combustion.
